Castle Craig Hospital is a private residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinic located in Peeblesshire, Scotland. It is the largest addiction treatment hospital in the UK and since its founding in 1988 it has treated over 10,000 patients. It is based at Castle Craig, an 18th-century country house set in of private parkland near the village of Blyth Bridge, around south of Edinburgh. ==Treatment== Treatment is based upon the 12-step abstinence-based model of care which recognises addiction as a disease and abstinence from all drugs is essential for long-lasting recovery. The treatment programme at Castle Craig is led by a Medical Director and Consultant Psychiatrist, and provides medical treatment, psychiatric therapy and complementary therapies. The following treatments are offered to all patients: * Detoxification (detox) * Individual therapy * Group therapy * Trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing * Cognitive behavioral therapy * Women's group * Problem gambling * Internet gaming addiction group * Hyperbaric medicine * Eating disorder * Grief therapy * Art class * Equine assisted therapy * Drumming therapy * Fitness, massage, acupuncture and aromatherapy * Mindfulness meditation Family therapy is an important part of treatment and Castle Craig offers it as a standard part of treatment. Aftercare consists of a two-year plan for each patient and is essential to reduce the risks of relapse. Group therapy aftercare sessions are held at four locations across Scotland every week and patients are encouraged to attend them for two years. A similar service is also offered in The Netherlands. All patients are encouraged to join local 12-step support groups, including Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Gamblers Anonymous (GA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA) and Sex Addicts Anonymous (SAA).
